Dog Walkers: Keep Dogs Under Control Around Livestock

Unlimited fines and stronger enforcement will take effect under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025

WHAT COUNTS AS AN OFFENCE

A dog is committing an offence if it:

• Attacks livestock
• Chases livestock
• Disturbs or stresses livestock — even without touching them
• Is loose and not under control in a field with livestock

Distress alone is enough.

WHAT YOU MUST DO

• Keep dogs on a short lead near livestock
• Avoid fields with livestock if your dog is excitable
• Extra care during lambing season
• Stick to marked paths
• Close gates
• If unsure: lead on
